Service Description
Schedule: 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm Collaboration between CrossFit 212 - The Extra Degree and the Cape Breton Down Syndrome Society (CBDSS). Aimed at young teens and adults with Down Syndrome. First program of its kind in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM). Exciting opportunity to bring high-intensity training to adaptive athletes. Program Goals: Provide a welcoming, accessible, and accommodating environment for adaptive athletes. Focus on the capabilities of participants, not their disabilities. Support athletes in building functional fitness, improving confidence, and developing skills for independent living. Promote inclusion and community-building within the gym. Program Highlights: Weekly Special Classes tailored for adaptive athletes. Functional fitness movements that translate to everyday activities, such as: Reaching overhead. Lifting heavy items. Getting up from the floor. Climbing stairs. Playing with family or participating in sports. Focus on teaching safe and efficient techniques while having fun. Implementation: Designed after consultations with the CBDSS executive and members. Classes created to meet athletes where they are, ensuring comfort and confidence. Safe spaces established for athletes of all abilities, fitness levels, and experience. Benefits for Athletes: Develop functional strength for everyday tasks.
